GUESS-WHy at SETAC Europe 36th Annual Meeting

We proudly participated in the SETAC Europe 36th Annual Meeting, held in Maastricht (17-21 May) under the theme “Embrace the Outlier: In Science, Regulations and Networks”. The conference served as a major platform for collaborative exchange, bringing together scientists, industry experts, academia, and policy authorities through presentations, poster sessions, workshops, training courses, and extensive networking activities.

During the meeting, we presented a poster on a practical and accessible chemical risk assessment methodology for hydrogen technologies, aligned with the European Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) framework focusing on key technologies in the hydrogen value chain such as PEM fuel cell (PEMFC) and electrolyzer cell (SOEC).

The proposed approach combines hazard identification and exposure assessment to evaluate both gross and residual risks, even in early-stage development where limited data are available. By integrating scenario-based analysis and control measures in line with the STOP principle (Substitution, Technical, Organizational, Personal), the methodology supports faster and more efficient decision-making, helping promote safer and more sustainable hydrogen manufacturing processes while remaining aligned with EU regulatory expectations.
